SOMATIC PRACTICE

From 'soma', a Greek word meaning living body - somatics is the practice of embodied awareness and self attunement. Through somatic practice, we can connect back to our felt sense, our direct experience of who we are and our deep inner knowing.

Mind-Body Integration

When we approach somatics through yoga, we focus on body-mind connection by sensing from the inside - though first person perspective that we call somatic tracking. Somatics is the practice of intention, understanding, embodied movement, deep connection to the self and everything around us. From here we find nervous system regulation, stress reduction and the expression of emotional energy that has been trapped in the body.

Somatic yoga allows us to safely drop into our embodied intelligence to explore our wild, intricate and delicate human state, where we can create  freedom and space to feel, breathe, move and express with authenticity.

Somatic Reprocessing

Somatic reprocessing is the therapeutic practice of healing physical and emotional pain in the body. This can be done in a one-to-one session through the following guided steps:

  • Cognitive transformation - understanding how physical and emotional trauma is fragmented and stored in the body

  • Somatic tracking - observing sensations in the body from a first person, safe and neutral perspective

  • Somatic exploration - processing thoughts and feelings, becoming aware of our core needs

  • Corrective experience - a guided somatic practice of reprocessing thoughts, releasing and transforming feelings and regulating the nervous system, to creating a safe environment for trauma to reach its natural completion.

"I loved the visual metaphors used during the class - it really helped centre myself and concentrate on my breath. Also, loved the hand on shoulder when stretching quads in standing, shed a few tears of release and sending comfort to others. Really beautiful."
